John Terry believes Liverpool striker Diogo Jota should not have been awarded a penalty during Monday night’s 4-2 defeat by Newcastle at Anfield.
Terry said he had given up hope of returning.
As Terry said, referee Anthony Taylor’s decision not to overturn the original decision was surprising. Jota made a late save despite minimal contact from goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The Chelsea legend’s comments were supported by the likes of Ian Wright, Gary Neville and Darren Bent, who believed the penalty should not have been awarded. Wright said he “saw everything” after Jota decided to go down instead of putting the ball into the empty net.
Despite the penalty shootout controversy, it’s safe to say Eddie Howe’s side finished runners-up. – I did everything I could throughout the game.
