Joe Gomez change sends Liverpool clear message over Mohamed Salah departure

An increasingly popular Coptic song states that there is no one like Joe Gomez.

Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp, the defender is not the only unexpected reason why Liverpool have exceeded expectations this season. Just 12 months ago, it looked like Gomez was headed for the point of no return.

His wildly inconsistent season, which began with a brilliant performance against Manchester City and then suffered a home defeat to Leeds United less than two weeks later, came to a head with a personal nightmare against Real Madrid in Champions League at Anfield. It was shortened due to tendon problems.

The centre-back played two more games after returning from injury as Liverpool changed their formation and began their recovery with their new team. Gomes appears to be in danger of being left behind.

But Gomez signed a new contract last summer for good reason, making it clear he believes he still has a role and is willing to fight for his place. Liverpool. Leaving Manchester United after a series of serious injuries was not a decision to be taken lightly. And this season, it was revived. More than half of the 29 pages, more than half of them, and Gomes start in the center before starting the role of the lack of 6 or 6 tribes. Andy Robertson’s fate was injured in Cemicas.

The liver of the subsequent version was recognized by Jurgen Klopp, and in the UK, only 26 of 26  and the team of Curry Field is in the last game of 2024 EUR 2024. Tsimikas was the player he was before the injury. After spending so much time on the wing, he took some time to readjust but put in several standout performances before his season was brought to a sudden halt by Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.

Stuttgart’s surprise summer signing Wataru Endo also came in handy to replace injured Japan international Alexis McAllister and play in the final eight games. He will not miss the Asian Cup held in Qatar.

There is more. Harvey Elliott will eventually hope to become more than that.

But the teenager has been an impressive Premier League player and cup specialist, making frequent appearances and contributing at key moments.Another 20-year-old centre-back, Jarell Kuansah, made 14 appearances as an academy star despite a lack of previous experience at senior level. And before the end of the season, Joel Matip’s outstanding form saw him overtake Ibrahima Konate to become Virgil van Dijk’s first-choice defensive partner.

While Mohamed Salah is a regular at right-back, none of the other four senior options are considered regulars this campaign, with Luis Diaz the most consistent player at left-back. Diaz, Darwin Nunes, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo could join Salah in another short-term slot at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Elliott is another viable option.

Salah’s departure will be the ultimate test of whether Liverpool can secure enough bench players to support Klopp’s new side this season. But Gomes proved what can be achieved.
