BAD NEWS: Green Bay Packers Gambling On Player Who Was Dismissed From 2 College Programs

The Green Bay Packers’ youthful offensive line this offseason has garnered a lot of attention from the media. Through the draft, the Packers added a number of talented offensive players.

The Packers did, however, invest a significant amount of money to strengthen their pass rush. Lukas Van Ness, an Edge, was their first choice.

The Packers signed a second pass rusher, this one from the SEC, after the draft. However, his tenure there was problematic. Numerous reports state that Brenton Cox was signed by the Packers on Monday.Cox was kicked out of the football departments at Florida and Georgia. After giving up a touchdown and video surfaced showing him allegedly punching Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh in the end zone, Cox was dismissed from the Florida program in October of last year.

The incident happened after Cox was humiliated by an offense at his previous school.

I heard that Cox received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine from Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated. After the events in college, Cox told reporters he was grateful for the opportunity to play in the NFCox was a gifted young man when he graduated from high school.

Prior to his freshman year at Georgia, he was a five-star athlete and ranked among the top-20 players in his class. As per his NFL.com prospect profile, Cox was dismissed from Georgia following his arrest for possession of marijuana.

At Florida, he had a respectable football career. His best statistical season was in 2023, when he had eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.

It might not be wise to keep Cox this season.

For the Packers, it’s worth taking a chance on Cox during rookie minicamp. It is up to the team to determine whether the risk to the locker room justifies his strong performance. Running back Kylin Hill was cut by the squad last season for non-performance-related reasons.

Quay Walker, who was ejected from two NFL games during his rookie season, is another player they have to handle this season. It might be too much for head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff to handle this season with two former Georgia linebackers on the same team.
