Liverpool have secured smart January signings in recent years and could do so again.
Liverpool underwent a major overhaul this summer as Jurgen Klopp overcame a mass exodus from midfield. He bought several new names to improve the club’s performance last season, which saw them miss out on the Champions League. Klopp’s side are currently in the thick of the title race and have lost just once all year, but according to several pundits, they still lack the squad to become champions again.
Their attacking options are limited, but they seem to be bringing in new faces from elsewhere on the pitch. Kylian Mbappe could be someone available for a move this summer after completing the final six months of his contract with PSG. He has been linked with a move away from Paris for years, but the French club are still hoping to convince him to make the move.
Real Madrid are considered a top contender to sign Mbappe for free this summer. Their interest in him dates back to his days in Monaco. However, Le Parisien say the Frenchman is open to a move to Liverpool.Manchester United are seen as the biggest threat to sign Mbappe and could attempt a move, especially if Mohamed Salah decides to leave Anfield for Saudi Arabia. Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern Munich midfielder is entering the final 18 months of his Bayern contract but his value is set to drop as he approaches a free transfer. Kimmich, whose versatility has been a key asset for AS, does not have an agent but is said to be interested in hiring one to explore his options.
Current Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel is conflicted about getting the best out of the player, seeing him in a different role to others at the club. During the summer, Kimmich told BILD: “It was hard not to meet it [the rumours]. First of all, I don’t like rumours. As everyone knows, I have two years left on my contract and we have big plans [for the next two years] at Bayern Beck.Liverpool have decided to recall Owen Beck from his loan spell at Dundee.
The young defender was due to spend the season in Scotland but returned to Anfield earlier than planned.
Klopp faces an injury crisis at left-back with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas sidelined. Beck is now a viable option thanks to his impressive performance north of the border. After announcing his transfer, the Scottish club said: “Owen has been fantastic on and off the pitch and will be missed by everyone at Dundee FC.”
