Liverpool fans flocked to Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal striker missed a chance against Fulham.
The England international has been one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players in recent years.
Despite his swift response to lift the north Londoners to promotion in a 2-1 defeat to manager Marco Silva, the microscope took its toll on the young forward.Shortly after Bobby De Córdoba-Reid had given Fulham the lead, Saka had a golden opportunity to equalize and win the game outright. But the Gunners academy star cleared off the line from eight yards, giving Liverpool fans the chance to taunt Arsenal fans for putting him in the same league as Mohamed Salah.
“They compared Saka to Salah,” said one Liverpool fan. Another added: “It’s ridiculous that our fans think Saka is close to Salah.” Saka’s condition, like the rest of the team, worsened. Salah is one of the top ten players in the world and probably the best right winger of all time.” A third said: “Remember when people said Saka was world class? He is clearly a very good player, but Arsenal fans thought he would be the next Salah. I think he’s somewhere between Riyad Mahrez and Marcus Rashford.” One fan also tweeted: “There’s less talk about Saka’s decline this year. Arsenal fans have had the audacity to keep him since last year.
compared to Salah deAnother Liverpool fan added: “I don’t understand the comparison between Salah and this guy. I like Saka but Arsenal fans praise him too much. This season, Saka has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 18 Premier League games for the Gunners. This time last year he had six goals and seven assists for the Gunners, finishing the season with 14 goals and 11 assists.
If Arsenal lose to Fulham, they will drop to fourth place in 2024 after going top of the Premier League on Christmas Day. However, there is a 3 point gap between 5th placed Tottenham Hotspur and leaders Liverpool.
