Nightmare Calvin Ramsay loan spell explained by boss; Liverpool won’t be happy

Calvin Ramsey has had a terrible loan spell at Liverpool this season. Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe explains why.

Calvin Ramsey left Liverpool this summer to join Preston North End on a season-long loan.

It would have been valuable experience and playing time for the prospect, who has only just arrived in the 2022/2023 season. But things did not go according to plan. Ramsey immediately suffered a knee injury that ruled him out for four months.

He is currently recovering from COVID-19, which recently caused him to be left out of the team. In total, that means Ramsey has played in just two games this season.

The former came on as a substitute in the 4-0 win against Middlesbrough at the end of November. He then made his only start in the 87th minute in a 2–0 defeat to Preston Queen’s Park Rangers.

However, Ramsey has been withdrawn from the squad and will have no impact on manager Ryan Lowe’s plans.

This week the head of the PNE moved to clarify the situation. This seems to be a matter of patience. It is possible,” Lowe told the Lancashire Evening Post. “Now he has been excluded from the national team because he has COVID-19.

“He trains and trains every day, but we have to find players to help him come off the bench. I want more attacking players and we have Alli (McCann) and [Alan Brown] who can fill that gap at right-back, and even Liam Miller who can switch to the other wing.”Now we don’t need additional players on the bench. Yes, it is valid and available and you will have to wait your turn. I hope he can get over it when the time comes. Ramsey will have to wait his turn. Perhaps he would be willing to do so, perhaps he has no choice, but that is not the situation Liverpool want.

They have signed one of England’s brightest young defenders for Scotland in 2022. But injuries have kept him out of regular plans for most of the season and this campaign could be the moment he gets back on track.

But another lost year is upon us. Will Liverpool play next month? It’s possible, but maybe they’ll leave Ramsay out and call it a learning experience. But something has to change. Otherwise, Scotland will be far behind in development.
