Liverpool missed out on a return to the Premier League after a disappointing performance against Manchester United this weekend. However, the Reds still have two games left to regain their lead in the new year. If Liverpool can get a positive result against Arsenal and a win over Burnley, they will be in very good form heading into 2024. But as the year progresses, the focus will shift to the January transfer window and the signings Jurgen Klopp wants. There are cross lines to strengthen their composition. There have been some rumors about potential new entrants, but some decisions may be made internally.
According to The Mirror, talks are ongoing about where Fabio Carvalho will watch the 2023/2024 season. He is currently on loan at RB Leipzig but Liverpool are looking to bring him back from Germany early. Manchester United have opened talks with the Bundesliga side, saying they are “unsatisfied with Carvalho’s current lack of playing time”. The 21-year-old, who is yet to fully break into Klopp’s squad, has made just eight Bundesliga appearances this season. Only one of them played the main role, while the others mainly had guest roles.
Despite his inactivity, Leipzig have confirmed that Carvalho is part of their plans for this season. But if Liverpool were to bring him back, it wouldn’t be in their best interests. The report claims the £12million youngster is “ready to impress Fulham” in January and says the Cottagers are also interested in such a deal.
Carvalho’s senior career began at Fulham in 2020 and he made a strong impact, representing both the first team and youth teams. Liverpool signed him last summer and he has made 21 appearances under Klopp in a variety of roles but has failed to cement a regular place in the team. Liverpool would like to move Carvalho to a club where he could benefit from regular game time.
His contract at Anfield runs until 2027 and as a versatile attacking midfielder he can fill a variety of roles in the team. Time will tell if Klopp plans to make Carvalho a starter. But until that happens, experience is key and the club feel they are not good enough in their current position.
