Because of opposition, manchester united’s diogo dalot was dismissed during their goalless draw against liverpool.
In the 94th minute at anfield, dalot was shown two yellow cards in the space of two seconds after being told that liverpool had been given a throw-in. Dalot believed united should have taken the decision their way, throwing his arms up in the air in dissatisfaction, as the ball seemed to have come off mohamed salah last. Dalot was booked for his reaction, before being dismissed by michael oliver shortly after for continuing to express his displeasure.united held 0-0 to secure a 0-0 draw.
Gary neville, who gave his take on the situation, told sky sports: “that first scream, yes, it’s a booking.” To me, it seems as though michael oliver has created something there that he doesn’t need to. “the first booking is fine, it is an aggressive reaction, and he should be booked for it,” he said, “but it is all the same movement.” He’s been sent off… i’ve never seen it before, but it’s just what it is.” Jamie carragher agreed with neville and believes that oliver should have handled the incident differently. “michael oliver is the best referee in the premier league, but it’s a strange one,” carragher said. “i think you should just go over to him and have a stern word with him, i don’t think he should do so.”
When neville was mocked by mike dean during a co-commentary for sky sports, the ex-united right-back asked why dalot had been sent a red card. “dissent twice, what does that mean?” neville asked. “it means he’s done it twice, gary,” dean said. Dean explained why dalot was dismissed, saying, “evidence has it that he is enraged by the throw-in.” It has gone the wrong way for me, and it should be manchester united’s throw-in.
