Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his displeasure with the Amazon Prime host after joking about Liverpool’s early start.
Klopp’s comments come after goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai secured a 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
The Liverpool manager previously criticized the decision to schedule an away trip to Manchester City at 12.30pm (UK time) after the November international break, calling it a decision made by “people with no football sense”. Klopp believes such a decision will ultimately damage the Premier League product as tired players fail to perform well in some of the most important games of the season.
Klopp has consistently expressed his frustration with lunchtime selections, including engaging in a heated exchange with a BT Sports reporter in 2020.
In a post-match interview at Bramall Lane, Klopp hit out at Amazon Prime presenter Marcus Buckland after he commented on Liverpool’s upcoming kick-off against Crystal Palace. Buckland said: “Jurgen got injured to shake the basket, played all these games and is still doing well in Europe, the League Cup and the FA Cup… You go to your favorite place to start the weekend, Crystal Palace.
“This is the price of success.”Klopp reacted strongly to Buckland’s comments: “Brave, very brave. “You’re kidding about that.” Buckland asked Klopp about his passion and enjoyment of the game and Klopp replied: “Always is. Now we’re going home, but I don’t know exactly what time we’ll get there. 1, 2, whatever. Okay, then let’s play again. Are there two sessions tomorrow? Yes, there are two sessions. That’s not important. We will go again. Klopp expressed his disappointment at Buckland’s comments. “If you’re joking, you’re completely ignorant. But I understand that it is a good thing and football is entertainment”.
“Everything is okay.” Buckland tried to make light of the situation, saying: “It’s just one of those things that comes up and I’m not trying to be rude.” Klopp said: “It has already happened. “I’m sorry,” he replied.
Klopp was clearly unimpressed. “You can say whatever you want,” he said. “I can’t tell you what I want because it’s so different.”
