‘I knew it’ – What Marco Silva wanted to do before Liverpool won

Marco Silva believes his Fulham side did better than their seven-goal drubbing against Liverpool and revealed just how much he feared a dramatic winner.

Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold were injured in the closing minutes of Manchester United’s 4-3 win over the Londoners at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick was later turned into a Bernd Leno own goal and Alexis McAllister’s screamer twice put the hosts ahead before Fulham hit back to take a 3-2 lead in the final minutes.

A disappointed Silva said: “I got more than I deserved. The way they scored this afternoon… First a world class free kick and then a wonderful goal from Mc Allister. That wouldn’t have happened if Mac Allister had sat there for two hours trying, but that’s football and he’s a world-class player. “We didn’t create many chances in the first half. In the second half they had more control, but we didn’t want to give them space at the back.

They had a great opportunity with (Darwin) Nunez on the counter, but nothing else.“Then we knew we could try to score the (third) goal after the change. “We did it in good style.”As the Anfield crowd cheered, Silva tried to bring on a substitute after Endo’s equaliser, allowing Alexander-Arnold to strike before scoring.”Because I’m Liverpool.” He said. “When they equalized, it was a moment we didn’t deserve.”From that moment I knew there was going to be a big reaction (at Liverpool). I wanted to make a change to calm the crowd, but the game was stopped for a minute and a half and they scored.” .

“We know the game will never be 100% in control against this side, the crowd, etc. and they can do something, but the game was under control.”And another great finish from the edge of the box. Of course at that point we knew the game was close and we wanted to make a change to calm the game down, it was a bit crowded but at that point we made a mistake. and they scored the fourth goal.

»Silva added: “The players should be proud of what we did but unfortunately we didn’t get what we deserved. This afternoon’s Premier League game was truly excellent. That’s a good thing, but players need points to boost their confidence and belief that they’re doing the right thing.
