LFC Boston Liverpool fan Nick Sapia shares his thoughts on the Reds last season ahead of Brentford and his thoughts on the Reds’ season so far.
Liverpool returned to the Premier League for the first time after Luis Diaz’s late goal prevented an embarrassing defeat at Luton last weekend, with Jurgen Klopp’s side needing three points at home to Brentford.We asked Liverpool fan Nick Sapia a few questions about the Reds ahead of the game after some disappointing results against LFC Boston.
It was a good start to the new season, but a win at Anfield today would help.It hasn’t been the best week for Liverpool in terms of results. Worried about Luton and Toulouse?After Luton I wasn’t too worried. Of course, it was a disappointing game and we didn’t play well. But Liverpool created enough chances to win and their finishing let them down. They will probably win this game 80% of the time. So I think there was an element of luck working against them. It felt like one of those games. Toulouse was even more worried because the whole force seemed ineffective. It was difficult to create chances in the first half.
The midfield also seemed to suffer at times due to the intensity Toulouse brought to the game (Alexis McAllister and Wataru Endo only won two of their 15 games on the pitch, which was a concern). It was also worrying that Klopp suffered a prolonged slump in the second half after being substituted in the first half to win the game.We are finally starting to see the impact of injuries on the team, with Andy Roberston being the biggest loss. Kostas Tsimikas clearly struggled with Toulouse. Joe Gomez has been outstanding this season, but his cameo on the left side left a lot to be desired. They missed Curtis Jones and will now be without him again this weekend with a thigh injury and will wait to see if Ryan Gravenberch misses another game.
There is a real sense of unity and determination in the team that was missing for a long time last season. Although a young squad, this could be Klopp’s deepest squad to date. The future is exciting and it feels like this team is on the rise. This reminds me of the 2017-18 season when there was a real sense that something special was coming for Liverpool. We’ll see how this season goes, but if the rebuild continues at this pace, good things will come.
