TV critic Andy Gray accused VAR of destroying the “soul of the game” after further controversies this weekend.Arsenal were furious when Anthony Gordon’s winning goal was conceded and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaras escaped punishment for elbowing Jorginho.
And former Liverpool player Iago Aspas has expressed his displeasure with the VAR system after throwing the referee’s monitor to the ground during a game with Celta Vigo.
Gray told BeIN SPORTS:
“VAR has done more damage to our game than anything we’ve changed in the last 100 years!“Talk to every football fan who wants to go to a (Premier League) game and celebrate a goal but can’t. It started to separate and look like a soccer ball. He pauses for four or five minutes. “We will only use VAR for offside and goal lines.”Arsenal have issued a statement of support for manager Mikel Arteta after he challenged England’s refereeing standards following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Newcastle.
The statement said the club would stand by the manager if there were any more “unacceptable refereeing and VAR errors”. He goes on to say that the fans, players and administrators deserve “better” than PGMOL.  Arteta was denied a crucial goal by Anthony Gordon after the final whistle at St James’ Park, while Bruno Guimaras escaped punishment for elbowing Jorginho.
