Former Liverpool star Ronnie Rosenthal has backed Darwin Nunes to replace Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian forward leaves next summer. The 31-year-old winger has attracted plenty of interest in the Middle East this summer. Saudi Arabian Professional League outfit Al Ittihad offered Salah £150m but the offer was rejected.
They made another move in the closing stages of the transfer window, offering a world record fee of £225m. However, the transfer never materialized as the Reds were not interested in selling their star player. Rosenthal claimed the Merseyside outfit had dropped the Egypt international, who has a year left on his contract next summer. Salah’s departure from Anfield would be a huge blow for Liverpool and given his influence at the club, Rosenthal has found the perfect replacement. He praised Nunes but insisted the former Benfica striker has the ability to score regularly.
For Liverpool, Nunes has started the 2023/24 season well. The Uruguayan has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 14 games for Manchester United this season.
