Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano discussed the latest relationship between Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Calvin Phillips in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
The England international is currently unable to play many games for Manchester City and looks set to leave the club. Where it will go next remains to be seen, although the Etihad Stadium will be in the near future.Phillips is an interesting option for Liverpool after losing a number of midfielders last summer, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho moving to Saudi Arabia and James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita leaving as free agents. Alexis McAllister, Dominic Szobozslai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo eventually joined the Reds, but you can imagine there could be a spot for a player like Phillips.
However, Romano doesn’t know what exactly is going on there, so it’s just speculation at this point.
“As mentioned earlier, Calvin Phillips looks set to leave Manchester City in January, but despite what has been reported elsewhere, we don’t currently know what talks will take place with Liverpool,” Romano explained. “At the moment no decision will be made in October on transfer plans for January, but a decision will be made later in the year.”
