Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that winning a fourth successive Premier League title will be difficult.It’s something the competition hasn’t seen since it began in 1992, and Guardiola says he’s under no illusions about how “difficult” the competition will be.
I’ve often said that nobody has ever won the Premier League four times in a row. It shows how difficult it is, but now, especially in the Champions League, it’s important to be at this stage for the next stage and then we just have to focus on the Premier League. That’s the goal. Guardiola’s side have lost twice this season but steadied the ship with a 2-1 win over Brighton this weekend.
The City manager insists the treble season has taken its toll on him and his players, but they are working hard to return to the standards that have seen English sides dominate the league in recent years. With just a few points separating them from the top five, City know they will be competing for the top spots.
Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Aston Villa are currently in the mix, but at least a few teams are believed to be left behind before the start of the year. Nothing has been decided yet on Christmas Day, but the Citizens are set to host a series of games that will determine the course of the season.
They play the Manchester derby against Bournemouth and Chelsea next weekend. The next international break will be immediately followed by Premier League champions Liverpool and Tottenham at the Etihad.
