During last night’s MNF coverage on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher got the chance to joke about with James Maddison about the most recent Tottenham v. Liverpool match. The Bottle native couldn’t help but poke fun at the Spurs midfielder after the game when he was discussing the consequences from the contentious encounter in north London in September. The midfielder scored in their 2-0 victory against Fulham to send them back to the top of the Premier League.
Â
Jurgen Klopp suggested that a replay would be appropriate following the VAR controversy surrounding Luis Diaz’s incorrectly disallowed goal in the Reds’ 2-1 loss to Ange Postecoglou’s team, but that ship has long ago departed. But Carragher brought it up in his conversation with Maddison last night, telling her: “You’ve got a huge game [on] Friday. Even though there is still more to do, you have done a great job. How do you anticipate performing in the second meeting with Liverpool?I just knew by the tone of Carra’s voice,” the Spurs midfielder responded with a smile, but the rest of his sentence was cut off by raucous laughing from others in the Sky studio.
Â
The rematch between Tottenham and Liverpool was never a realistic possibility, thus Carragher’s jab was undoubtedly meant in jest.
Â
To be fair to Maddison, that’s precisely how he interpreted it, and he wasn’t hesitant to respond to the commentator with a lighthearted jab, which the former Reds defender evidently relished!
