Dan Kay, a former journalist for ECHO, raised more than £5,000 for charity with the help of his family and friends.
On Sunday, Liverpool’s Academy grounds hosted the inaugural game of what will eventually become an annual football match, which was followed by a charity raffle at Aigburth People’s Hall. Dan’s Monday night football teammates defeated his former coworkers 7-3.
Dan, 45, passed away unexpectedly in May.
A little over £5,000 was donated for three charities near to Dan’s heart: An Hour for Others, Mind, and Imagine If Trust thanks to the raffle organized by Merseyside comedian and actor Neil Fitzmaurice, as well as the sale of a special match program and several donations on a dedicated GoFundMe page.
A night in the Titanic hotel, a £200 Montirex gift card, a spa day at the Hope Street Hotel, and autographed Everton and Liverpool shirts were among the donated prizesDan served as the honorary secretary of the Princes Road Synagogue’s Liverpool Old Hebrew Congregation. Dan’s leadership of the ECHO’s live coverage of the new Hillsborough inquests, which found that those who died on April 15, 1989, were unlawfully killed, was one of his many accomplishments as a journalist.
Dan spent a lot of time with the families who were impacted over the years and fought arduously for them while compiling the specific memorials to those who lost their lives.
Additionally, he volunteered for Imagine If Trust and An Hour for Others.
