Liverpool are ready to ditch the doubleheader for a Europa League tie as debutants are likely to feature.

Liverpool turned their attention to Toulouse after beating Everton in the Europa League. Liverpool U21s drew 1-1 with Benfica in the Premier League International Cup yesterday.

Three first-team players arrived at the AXA training facility a day after the Premier League side secured a 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby. Jarell Quanza and James McConnell started the game and Calum Scanlon was on the bench. McConnell, who has been in impressive form in pre-season, blocked Philippe Cruz’s excellent cross and headed home Liverpool’s 34th-minute equaliser.Kwanza came on as a half-time substitute in Thursday’s Europa League match against Toulouse at Anfield.

The England Under-20 international has made significant progress this season and is regarded as one of the top five centre-backs. He has made five appearances so far, including his Premier League debut in a 3-1 win over Wolves last month. Virgil van Dijk could be rested against French side Toulouse, while Joel Matip could replace Ibrahima Konate, who was sent off for two fouls against Everton. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez could replace Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right, giving Cuanza a place in the center of the back line. Luke Chambers also came on at half-time against Benfica and was replaced by Scanlon.

The versatile left-back could be out for up to three months with a shoulder injury, alongside Andy Robertson. Chambers was only on the bench against Everton after twisting his ankle during an England Under-20 international.

He trained ahead of the Merseyside derby but did not look ready for first team action. Kostas Tsimikas is now Liverpool’s first-choice left-back but could be rested ahead of Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest. The Greece international was sent off after a mixed second-half performance against Everton. Chambers, 19, made his United debut in a 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City last month. 

He also had a very productive loan spell at Kilmarnock in the second half of last season, making a total of 16 appearances and helping the club avoid relegation from the Scottish Premier League.

Now Chambers makes his full debut for the club he has played for since the age of six.Liverpool have won their opening two Europa League Group E matches against LASK and Union SG, and a third straight win would take them one step closer to the knockout stages.
