Jurgen Klopp benched Darwin Nunes during the Merseyside derby at Anfield. Ryan Gravenbirch will make his Premier League debut in the Merseyside derby alongside Kostas Tsimikas, but Darwin Nunes will be on the bench.Gravenberch is yet to make his full league debut since his £40million move from Bayern Munich, but the Netherlands Under-21 international has lined up in midfield alongside Alexis McAllister and Dominic Szoboszlay.
Tsimikas joined captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Ibrahima Konate started at centre-back alongside the skipper. However, Nunez suffered a thigh injury during Uruguay’s 2–0 win over Brazil and remained on the bench during the international break. The striker, who scored against the Selecao, returned to Merseyside on Wednesday and has been training normally since Thursday, but Diogo Jota has been given the green light. Luis Diaz is good enough to start at Anfield with Mohamed Salah on the right of Sean Dyche’s attack.
However, Cody Gakpo continues to rehabilitate his knee injury. Youngsters Calum Scanlon and James McConnell have been named as part of the nine-man bench.
