Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool will be unable to challenge for the Premier League title due to two areas in which they need to improve.
The Reds were beaten to a 2-2 draw by Brighton on Sunday afternoon, despite Mohamed Salah’s first-half brace saving a point for Jurgen Klopp’s side at the Amex.
As a result, Liverpool moved up to third place in the Premier League rankings, and had it not been for some VAR controversy at Tottenham, they could have moved even higher. Despite their good start to the Premier League season, former Reds defender Carragher believes the team is lacking in a handful of areas.
‘Whether they can go on and win,’ Carragher remarked ahead of the game at the Amex.Liverpool’s need for midfield reinforcements was extensively publicized this summer, after they were beaten to the acquisitions of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom chose to join rivals Chelsea.
Instead, the Reds were able to sign Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich and Wataro Endo from Stuttgart to bolster their midfield depth.
It followed the exits of several players this summer, including Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Despite having a new-look roster for the season, Liverpool has only managed 17 points out of a potential 24.
‘It’s been a good start this season,’ Carragher said of their start. And it appears that in the first two weeks that this team looks that current squad he is assembling will hopefully be able to surpass the accomplishments of his past teams
