Journalist Dean Jones has speculated that Liverpool player Dominik Szoboszlai would follow in the footsteps of a “Anfield legend” at the Merseyside club.
Szoboszlai has had a fantastic start to his career with Liverpool, and the Hungarian is already regarded as one of the season’s best purchases.
It was obvious that something needed to be done about the Liverpool midfield after a disastrous 2022–23 season that resulted in Champions League football being lost. The Premier League team said goodbye to a number of players during the summer transfer window, including James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita.
Jude Bellingham was expected to be the man hired to solve Liverpool’s midfield problems, but the Reds were left furious when their top target decided to move to Real Madrid in place of them. Jurgen Klopp and company were consequently compelled to look elsewhere.
Given how the Hungarian has changed their midfield since his arrival, there shouldn’t be much disagreement within the Liverpool camp as to whether Szoboszlai is the best acquisition they’ve made this summer. When contrasting the wider Premier League purchases, it’s not quite as simple.
Szoboszlai, a dynamic midfielder who cost £60 million, is in the middle of the price range for players in that position this summer, with other clubs splashing nine-figure sums on comparable players. Arsenal and Chelsea spent over £100 million on Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, respectively. However, some argue that Szoboszlai has already provided better value for money.
