The combination of youth and experience that Liverpool has is exciting to Virgil Van Dijk, and he expects it will help the team succeed this season.
After a number of long-tenured players left Anfield this summer, including Jordan Henderson, the Dutchman was elected the Reds’ new captain.
This season, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has signed new players Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch in addition to developing young players like 17-year-old winger Ben Doak and 20-year-old defender Jarell Quansah.
Van Dijk stated to the PA news agency, ‘I don’t view it as a difficulty, things happen for a reason, players move on and new players come in, players have new positions, and I believe that’s a very exciting thing.
The leadership group has changed, the captain and vice-captain have changed, and the players now have different responsibilities off the field, it is obvious. The team spirit is definitely quite high right now, and I believe that everyone is enjoying their roles.
Everyone has realized that they each have a part to play, and regardless of whether they start, sit on the bench, or enter the game, everyone is attempting to make a difference. That’s the foundation of success, in my opinion, and it’s extremely wonderful so far.
The team we now have appears to be really exciting, in my opinion. Every team in the globe will find it challenging against us because of our abilities.
Van Dijk says it’s rewarding to mentor the team’s younger players and that it makes you feel responsible. I remember exactly how I was when I was younger and climbing the ranks.
It’s never easy, and as one of the older, wiser guys, I want to support them in any way I can.
