Ryan Gravenberch claims that his first goal for Liverpool, which helped the Reds keep winning in the Europa League, was the “best goal of my career so far.”
On Thursday night at Anfield, Liverpool overcame Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium 2-0 thanks to goals from Gravenberch and Diogo Jota.
Just before halftime, the midfielder scored the game’s first goal by tapping in after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long-range shot was mishandled by goalkeeper Anthony Moris.
Following a single, challenging season at Bayern Munich, Gravenberch went to Liverpool on deadline day in a deal worth £34 million.
The former Ajax player has made a strong start for his new team, with a goal and two assists in his first three starts, but he is yet to make an impression in the Premier League after being limited to just three appearances.
After a strong performance against Union SG and a 21-year-old who is obviously happy to be playing for the Reds, that will undoubtedly alter now.
‘I love it. It feels fantastic. I believe that to be the best goal of my career thus far,” the Dutch international told TNT Sports following the game.
It makes no difference [how it arrives]. One objective is one goal. A player only gains confidence after receiving minutes, and that’s all.
They [his new friends] are genuinely wonderful people; they make a great team. Also, there are young players, and I’m just having fun. We are in such a terrific mood, and I think Liverpool did a great job in acquiring such quality players.
“[The fans’ standing ovation meant] a lot, a lot,” said the speaker. I’m overjoyed that they make me feel so good, and I want to repay them in some way.
