After the officials involved were once again relieved of their duties, Liverpool will receive the audio from the VAR gaffe during their match against Tottenham before it is made public.The VAR audio from Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal will be made public by the PGMOL.
After making a formal request to hear the audio from VAR Darren England and his deputy Dan Cook from Saturday’s highly contentious game, Liverpool will receive the recording first.
It is now a matter of when and not if that recording will be shown to better explain the VAR gaffe as the referees’ body will make it public.
Referees England and Cook have been removed from further Premier League assignments for this weekendafter last weekend’s disaster, replacements have been made for the respective games at Nottingham Forest and Fulham.Simon Hooper, the referee who oversaw Tottenham’s victory over Liverpool on Saturday, has, however, virtually been absolved of responsibility because he also served as the fourth official for Fulham’s match against Chelsea on Monday night.
Even though Sky analyst Gary Neville explicitly implied in a tweet that the “ref looks sick” and knew there had been a mistake, the officials’ organization insists that Hooper was unaware of the blunder until halftime.
The two VARs were aware of the error in communication right away, but neither intervened to tell the referee that the goal should have stood rather than being disallowed for offside.TheHooper believed that the ruling was accurate when England declared “check complete” even though the on-field judgement was offside, and the goal should have stood instead of being ruled checked by VAR.
England “lost focus” in his duty, and Cook may be held accountable for not stepping up as well, it has since been revealed.
All of this, however, suggests that the VAR audio actually reveals very little further information from what we already know – other than the possibility that a mistake was made.
Since Howard Webb, the PGMOL has made a concerted attempt to be more transparent, which is why they have started a new monthly show called Match Officials Mic’d Up that plays all the audio recordings from significant rulings.
