While Luis Diaz’s contentious offside strike was being reviewed by referee Simon Hooper, Gary Neville gave unseen perspective from the gantry, preventing Liverpool from scoring the opening goal.Gary Neville has admitted that after Luis Diaz’s offside goal cost Liverpool 2-1 at Tottenham, referee Simon Hooper was “sick” when he saw the pitch-side VAR monitor.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 26-year-old Diaz thought he had given the Reds the lead until the offside flag was hoisted. Despite footage indicating the Colombian appeared to be in an onside position when Mohamed Salah put the ball through, VAR did not overturn the verdict following a brief review.However, following the game, PGMOL acknowledged that the choice was “clear and obvious factual error” and that a thorough review will be conducted.

Curtis Jones was controversially given a straight red card for a tackle on Yves Bissouma after a VAR review. Neville said that a yellow card would have been “fine” but did not believe the officials made the right decision.
