Former Liverpool defender turned commentator Steve Nicol has offered his opinion on forward Divock Origi, another former Red.
For many years, The Mighty Reds have been among the most recognizable names in club football. dominating the Pre-Premier League era, in which the 1989–1990 season saw the last championship triumph.
The club’s most recent success came in 2019 after they won the Champions League during the previous campaign (2018–19).
The former Red said, in reference to the Belgian international, on ESPNFC:
Has he made a goal? He did, in fact. That is what the person in Liverpool did. He didn’t enter the game until the final five to ten minutes, although he was known for his spectacular goals.
However, I’ll tell you what—in open play, he was terrible. And even if he scored a goal in that final (against Tottenham), he was atrocious.
He can’t head a ball to save his life despite being roughly 6 feet 1 inches tall. If you played it up to him, he wouldn’t be able to hold a sack of cement.
He was unable to pass the ball to a player wearing a jersey of the same color. He also is unable to head the ball. But in the end, he scored a goal!
However, the Belgian striker had a lot of promise and gave a lot more, which led Klopp to select him anytime the Merseyside giants faced a pressing situation.
Therefore, it would be hasty to dismiss his skills and his contributions to Liverpool’s glory.
