The Reds completely overhauled their midfield options during the summer transfer window, signing four central midfielders, including the Japan international. Endo joined Liverpool for around £17.5 million from VfB Stuttgart and has already made five appearances, two of which have been starts.
In response to the question of which of his new teammates has most impressed him during his brief time at Anfield, Endo responded, “All the players have extremely good skills here, and among them I think the goalkeeper Alisson is amazing.
I’ve played with a lot of goalkeepers, but his shot-stopping skills are top-notch. Of course, the forward players are quite skilled, and the other players are also very skilled, but Alisson’s shot-stopping skills are just fantastic.
“He is very powerful and saves the team from perilous situations.”
Since the 2023–24 season began, Alisson has been at his peak, making a number of critical and extraordinary saves to keep Liverpool’s perfect start intact.
The goalkeeper’s Castrol Save of the Month save to prevent Miguel Almiron a likely goal in Liverpool’s dramatic victory over Newcastle United—a game in which Darwin Nunez scored a late winner for the ten-man Reds team—was certainly his most memorable contribution of the season thus far.
Endo also spoke about how he sees himself fitting into Liverpool’s tactical scheme, saying, “I am always mindful about whether I can be in the best position both defensively and offensively.
“When we are attacking, I try to position myself between the forwards and midfielders of the opposition, or I consider how they are attempting to put pressure on us. Each team has a structure in place. I try to identify the player who is attempting to push me and adjust my position and where the ball is moved based on what I observe.
The same holds true for defense. When a certain player moves, I observe how the opposition moves the ball in their system and consider how I will defend. While playing, I consider these things constantly.
In this week’s Carabao Cup match between Liverpool and Leicester City, Endo is anticipated to play a significant role.
