David Moyes, the manager of West Ham United, is ‘bore up’ with leaving Anfield wondering what may have been because of his extended winless streak at the site of Liverpool.
Moyes lamented the missed opportunities his team had in the opening period of their 3-1 loss on Merseyside. With five victories from their first six games this season, Liverpool, on the other hand, climbed into second place in the Premier League standings after their most recent victory.
At the stroke of halftime, Jarrod Bowen scored a beautiful diving header in front of the Kop to tie the score after Mohamed Salah had opened the scoring from the penalty spot. However, goals in the second half from Darwin Nunez and substitute Diogo Jota gave the Reds all three points.
The first 45 minutes saw the Hammers undoubtedly hold their own, despite Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio both wasting clear-cut opportunities. We had done a really decent job in the first half, but in the second half, I was dissatisfied with the second goal,” Moyes remarked of his team’s effort.
“There are many things to take from the game, even though we only generated a few [chances] in the first half and were already under pressure.
“I believe we have come and tried a little bit. However, I am more dissatisfied with the second and third goals, perhaps even more so with the third goal given that we are still in the game and have one more chance to win it at 2-1. We took a chance and bet on various guys in the hopes of scoring a second goal.
“I leave here too frequently repeating the same thing. I know I keep saying it, but Michail had a terrific chance to score with a header, and [Tomas] Soucek’s shot was superbly saved by the goalkeeper. We had our moments, but so did Liverpool, which was to be expected.
Before continuing, he said: “I believed Liverpool counter attacked us more than we counter attacked them because we had really fantastic game control.
“You might only get three chances when you come here, but they’ll get 10, so we have to hope they’ll miss nine and we’ll get two.”
