Liverpool is prepared to begin contract talks with two seasoned professionals, but a young player has been hurt after making his first start in 19 months.
This summer, Liverpool said goodbye to a number of highly compensated veterans while revamping its midfield with four acquisitions with an average age of 24 (and one who is also 30).
Thiago Alcântara and Jol Matip will be in that situation next summer because several of the players that left were out of contract. It would not be shocking if both players, who have struggled with injuries during their time with the Reds, were permitted to leave and conclude their careers elsewhere.
Matip allegedly wants to continue with the team and could be open to accepting conditions that are better for Liverpool than those in his current contract. 2024–25 would be his seventh season with the Reds if he choose to stay. However, his injury history is not positive, same like with Thiago.
Unfortunately, Kaide Gordon has sustained yet another injury after being sidelined for more than 18 months. The 18-year-old has rolled his ankle and will be out of commission for a few weeks, according to the Liverpool ECHO.
His last outing was for the Reds U21 team in a 4-1 loss to Middlesbrough earlier this month. He played as a substitute. The gifted youngster, who has already scored and played for the first team, has had terrible fitness luck. He will be out for a bit longer right as he was starting to regain match sharpness.
Let’s hope Gordon’s leave is brief and he can return to work shortly. Since players like Harvey Blair and Oakley Cannonier are also out, he should be ready to play right away after his return.
