With his most recent accomplishment, Mohamed Salah is joining some great company. He is no stranger to the Liverpool record books.
The Egyptian contributed two assists as the Reds overcame a goal deficit to defeat Wolves 3-1 and extend their winning streak to four games.
It was disappointing that he wasn’t given credit for all three after a Harvey Elliott shot was mistakenly scored after deflecting off Hugo Bueno and off Salah.
With those two assists, the 31-year-old has now contributed to 200 Premier League goals for Liverpool, surpassing the previous record holder for the team, Steven Gerrard, who had 199.
Opta reports that since moving to Anfield, Salah has contributed to 100 goals in the league, only Thierry Henry has accomplished that feat in fewer games.
He also became the first player since 2015 and just the fourth player overall to assist a teammate in five straight away Premier League games.
He also made history by being the first Reds player since John Barnes in 1990–91 to score or assist in each of the first five Premier League games of a season.
But the records don’t end there: the attacker has now surpassed Riyad Mahrez to earn the title of African player with the most assists throughout the Premier League era.
Salah will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest goal scorers at Anfield, but he has also quietly piled up a significant number of assists.
The Egyptian has plenty of time to continue breaking records before his time at Anfield is up because he is still only 31.
With 188 goals and counting, he has surpassed Gerrard to move up to fifth place on the club’s all-time scoring chart. However, he will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on those ahead of him.
On 228 he has Billy Liddell as his next target, and on 241 he has Gordon Hodgson.
Ian Rush’s record of 346 goals is still out of reach, but Salah will do all in his power to add to it while playing for Liverpool.
