Although Jurgen Klopp will mark eight years as Liverpool FC’s manager in October, he has urged his team to tackle “everything” with a “year one” mentality.
Over the years, there have been several discussions on how Klopp’s team has changed, as well as concerns about what comes next and how this team can recover.
This summer’s overhaul of the engine room, which was sorely lacking, has been made possible by the departure of many veteran players and the addition of four new midfielders.
The manager is aware that it is “still early days” because “we have to build a team” from scratch, not a “replica” of the previous club but a “new team,” and this is what has sparked the “year one” approach.
Klopp told reporters on Friday, “What we did was we changed a few things, we brought in new players.
“Perhaps for me, and I said it to the players, obviously, that this is not year eight, I think in October I’m here eight years, [but] that this is year one of the new team and that’s exactly how we approach everything,”We made several changes, added a few guys to provide an interesting look into their lives, and now we want to become a new team rather than a carbon copy of the former team.
“On that, we are now working. I’m all in; this is the first year of anything, not the eighth year of the pleasant past.
Similar to what he said at his very first press conference, Klopp remarked: “History is merely the base for us. You are not permitted to carry the history in your bag.
This is the team’s latest edition, and Klopp thinks fans will find it “easy” to love them.
When I’m in the dressing room and I look at the team, I really, really enjoy this team, Klopp stated before the Aston Villa game.
It’s still early, but I genuinely believe that it will be simple for people to love this team.
It’s all we require because we cannot, and Liverpool never could, start rooting for a team after we win; we must do it beforehand because that is our only chance to succeed.
