Following the summer’s activation of a clause in the Brazilian goalkeeper’s previous contract, Alisson is now among Liverpool’s highest-paid players.
Alisson has established himself as one of Jurgen Klopp’s team’s greatest and most crucial players since arriving from AS Roma in 2018.
Given the players he considers teammates, that is no small accomplishment, especially given that in prior years, supporters had little interest in a goalkeeper being one of the standouts.
However, Alisson, who is in his sixth season at Anfield, is now seen as irreplaceable and a world-class goalkeeper who is now earning a salary commensurate with his talent.
James Pearce of The Athletic reports that despite the absence of any new contracts over the summer, the No. 1 received a “considerable” pay raise as a result of a provision in his contract.
Alisson is currently Liverpool’s third-highest earner, earning more than £200,000 a week, behind only Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
When Salah agreed to new terms in 2022, he committed to a base salary of £350,000 per week, whereas Van Dijk’s contract is reportedly worth £220,000 per week.
With Alisson “happy and settled” at Merseyside, the boost allowed him to feel “fully appreciated” when Saudi Arabian interest first surfaced over the summer.
He signed a six-year extension to his present terms in 2021, extending his contract with the Reds until 2027.
While the specific condition that was triggered is unknown, it may have been due to his appearance, performance, or contract terms alone and may have increased gradually over the life of his engagement.
In any case, it would be difficult to refute the notion that Alisson deserves to rank among the club’s top paid employees considering his significance.
