The announcement that Trabzonspor had “pushed the button” on their efforts to recruit the Spaniard from Liverpool was announced on Wednesday, September 13. Turkish media termed this transfer the “transfer of the year.”
If reports are to be believed, a bigger fish has entered the competition and signing Thiago would have blown the minor coup the Trabzon outfit managed to pull off by signing Nicolas Pepe out of the water. The 32-year-old midfielder has received a bid from Istanbul powerhouses Fenerbahce, according to Turkish publication Takvim. He is still free to leave Liverpool for Turkey as the Super Lig transfer window doesn’t end until September 15th.
According to reports, Thiago wants to leave Anfield since Liverpool’s midfield is full as a result of the summer’s midfield transfer revolution.
Thiago is one of the best midfielders in the world when healthy, but his body has always been an absolute liability. He hasn’t played at all this year as he recovers from yet another injury, so Liverpool might be tempted to sell the 32-year-old while they still have the chance, even though they are now unable to find a successor.
Although it has always been assumed that Thiago will leave the Reds for free in the summer, if Liverpool were to take a chance and let him leave now, they could earn up to €5 million, which is the reported bid from Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce reportedly wants to give the midfielder a three-year contract for €7.5 million per year. However, it appears unlikely that the Reds will consent to allow Thiago leave given that they won’t be able to bolster their squad until January.
