When Liverpool visits Belgium in December, they will play their sixth and last Europa League group stage match at the Anderlecht stadium.
The Reds were placed in Group E with LASK, Toulouse, and Union SG after failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2016.
Jurgen Klopp’s team will travel to Belgium to play Union SG on December 14, but instead of playing in the hosts’ usual home stadium, Stade Joseph Marien, Liverpool will travel to Lotto Park, the home of Anderlecht, which has a 21,000 capacity and is located less than three miles away.
In recent European campaigns, Union SG has played their home matches at Lotto Park thanks to agreements they’ve had with Anderlecht in the past.
The Union SG team was overjoyed to learn that they had been placed in the same Europa League group as the Reds for what will be their second consecutive campaign.
They advanced to the competition’s quarterfinals the previous year but were defeated 5-2 overall by Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
When Liverpool travels to Union SG in December, they will be expecting to have already advanced to the competition’s knockout stages. Should Liverpool win the group, they will be allowed to skip the second play-off round in February.
