There is a case to be made, according to former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot, for Alisson Becker of Liverpool being the best goalkeeper in the world.
Despite the Brazilian’s omission for the Yashin Trophy, which has many Reds supporters fuming, Melchiot asserted that he is among the best:
“Alisson is a good yell in my opinion. I have no problem giving him the top spot. Although I am aware that Alisson occasionally displays a touch too much confidence, I still admire him as a goalie. But as a goalie, I still like him. Thus, I suppose he is.
Many other pundits would probably concur with Melchiot’s statements. Alisson’s performances did not suffer despite Liverpool’s difficulties in the Premier League previous season.
The Yashin Trophy is an individual award, despite the fact that it is relatively reasonable that winners come from teams who had more successful seasons.
 The ten candidates for the Yashin Trophy are Emi Martinez of Aston Villa, Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid, Ederson of Manchester City, Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona, Mike Maignan of AC Milan, Andre Onana of Manchester United, Yassine Bounou of Al Hilal, Dominik Livakovic of Fenerbahce, Brice Samba of Lens, and Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal.
In terms of their individual performances, you could argue that Courtois, ter Stegen, Maignan, and Samba had outstanding seasons. The inclusion of the others, however, is based on how well their club or nation has performed.
Alisson won’t likely pay much attention to the omission, but he will be trying to maintain the good form he displayed at the beginning of this season.
