John Aldridge, a Liverpool legend, thinks it would be wise to offload Mohamed Salah the following year.
He is adamant that Salah shouldn’t be let to go in January, though.
“I had no doubts on Mohamed Salah, only a fool would think he was going to go,” he wrote for the Liverpool Echo.
“You can’t undervalue the team or our chances to go and win cups, and if you sell him, it hurts a lot because you can’t move forward for months.” I know we have five other incredibly strong attackers, including Doak, but you have to hold onto your best, and he has been our best for a while.
He has seven or eight years left if he wants to play in that league because he would play until he was 39 or 40. Touch wood, he keeps himself healthy, avoids injuries, and Liverpool is sitting on what I like to refer to as the “Cullinan Diamond,” the largest diamond in the world!
He is currently ranked among the top players in the world and is the best Muslim player of all time, therefore they would stop at nothing to get their hands on him. He’s just going to increase in value, and although they might have to sell him before next summer, they can still earn more money. At the time, he is the best in football.
“I can’t decide if he should be allowed to depart next summer; nevertheless, it depends on his contract. After next summer, he will only have one year remaining.
“The club knows if Mo wants to go there, it would be silly if he only has one year left on his contract because they wouldn’t sell up and he would leave for free at the end of his contract,” said the source.
It makes more sense to let him go for free and get another season from Mo if you can get roughly £200 million for him, which is equivalent to about two of the finest players in the world right now, at £100 million apiece. At least on the business side of things.
