The comments made by Alex Ferguson about Liverpool and Manchester United that came true and still bother him

When Sir Alex Ferguson identified Manchester United as his main worry seven years ago, he was proven to be correct about Liverpool. Under the Scotsman, the Red Devils dominated the early years of the Premier League era and well into the twenty-first century. But since he retired and Manchester City reinforced their dominance under new owners on the other side of Manchester, everything has changed.

Liverpool supporters don’t need to be reminded of the hegemony Ferguson achieved during his extended stay at Old Trafford. Ferguson’s tenure coincided with Liverpool’s poor stretch, to which he, of course, made numerous contributions. However, as of right now, Liverpool has won both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Ferguson noticed what the German was doing back in 2016, and Jurgen Klopp has played a significant role in the change. Then, when discussing his main worry, he remarked of Klopp and Liverpool: “He has done a really excellent job and rekindled Liverpool’s passion. Big clubs have been known to lose. Liverpool changed managers for 20 years without creating their own identity.

“You can clearly tell that this year you need to count them in. On the field, you can see Klopp’s commitment, and I have no doubt that his effort in the gym is identical. His character is powerful. At a large club, that is crucial. I’m concerned about him because United doesn’t want Liverpool to surpass us at all.

Both Klopp’s concern and the remark that “big clubs lose it” were realized, as this is precisely what has occurred to United since Ferguson resigned. Can United regain its former dominance over not only Liverpool but the entire Premier League? That is the key issue right now. Given the sustained success of Manchester City and the ascent of Arsenal, those days still seem like a very long way off. Liverpool, on the other hand, will be hoping that they can keep Ferguson’s concerns about Klopp alive this season.
