Former Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas has urged Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, to offer youngster Ben Doak a bigger position in the Reds’ senior team structure.
The promotion of Doak from Liverpool’s U21 team to the first team, according to Douglas, “might not be the worst idea.” Despite Klopp’s adoration for the 17-year-old Scotland U21 international, he is confident that he is prepared.
Douglas also thinks that giving Doak more opportunities to play for the senior team would boost his playing time for Scotland’s U21 team, which would be beneficial for Doak’s development as a professional football player. Additionally, it might improve his prospects of being called up to the Tartan Army’s senior team.
It might not be the worst idea, according to Douglas, if Ben Doak is now promoted from the under-21s to the whole team. Here is a player in whom Jurgen Klopp has now placed his trust to replace Mo Salah during a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
It seems wise to have him in the squad for the friendly match against England. It would appease the supporters, reward a player who is on the fast road to the Liverpool first team, and discreetly demonstrate to [Elliot] Anderson that Canada’s talent pool is vast these days.
Doak is an exceptionally gifted player with a very promising future in the game of modern football. But regrettably, Liverpool’s attacking ranks already contain a wealth of potential.
The Reds can use players like Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah to play on either wing, but Doak is a natural wide man.
Having said that, if Doak gets promoted to the senior team, he need not play in each contest. His development will benefit greatly from just practising with the first team and spending time with some of the finest players in the world.
