According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool have made an unsuccessful bid of £100 million to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Jürgen Klopp’s side have brought in significant midfield reinforcements this summer, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo. However, they were also missing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who signed for Chelsea.
According to AS, Liverpool made a huge £100 million bid for Guimaraes at the end of the summer transfer window. Newcastle have rejected Liverpool’s attempt to sign the Brazilian midfielder.
The Magpies star joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 for £40m and has quickly become a key presence in midfield for Eddie Howe. With considerable experience in the Premier League, Guimaraes is considered a versatile talent and is approaching his peak at the age of 25.
Since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, he has contributed ten goals and six assists in 61 appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle, on the strength of their return to the Champions League after more than twenty years, were firm on his position. Manager Eddie Howe and the club see Guimaraes as an important player, especially ahead of their European campaign.
They were quick to turn down Liverpool’s big offer and reiterated their determination to keep the Brazilian midfielder. Liverpool are determined to challenge for the Premier League title and are looking to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing fifth-place finish last season.
The arrival of Ryan Gravenberch and the other midfield recruits strengthens the Reds team and improves their chances of success next season.
