Cody Gakpo was acquired by Liverpool in the January transfer window, and he has shown to be a valuable addition to the team.
Although he first gained notoriety at PSV Eindhoven as a second striker, he now plays as a center-forward for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp.
The international player from the Netherlands has excelled in this new role and recently talked about the adaptations and difficulties of playing as a striker.
Gakpo discussed his satisfaction at Liverpool and his ambition to get better with more experience in an interview with Voetbal International, which Soccer News reported on.
Additionally, he said that Klopp views him as an attacker and appreciates his ability to play in a variety of positions. Striker’s statement:
“When you are in a new position, it always takes some getting used to, but it’s also important to pick it up quickly and demonstrate my versatility as a player,” said the athlete.
“You simply want to play and contribute, wherever that may be. Although the coach views me as an attacker, I can also initiate attacks from midfield. I take notes there for that reason as well.
Notably, Darwin Nunez, a natural center forward, has been benched in favor of Gakpo due to his outstanding performances.
The Uruguayan international has not been a regular starter for Liverpool since his arrival. Since his January signing, Gakpo has performed admirably for Liverpool, and the club plans to maximize his potential in the future campaigns.
Due to the striker’s high level versatility in play, Klopp has the freedom to switch up the lineup and keep players fresh.
