After being named as Liverpool’s new captain earlier this year, a role he also enjoys with the Dutch national team, Virgil van Dijk has been speaking to Tubantia about his current situation. It’s been a summer of major change at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp being forced to completely reinvent his side after the dismal start to the season.

 A new midfield was required due to the losses of James Milner to Brighton and Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia. To round out the roster, Alexis MacAllister, Dominic Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch were all signed.
This, together with the additions from the previous campaign, like Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo, make this Liverpool team look considerably different from the one that has enjoyed recent success.

It has to be seen how they perform in comparison to what came before, and Van Dijk acknowledges that they are in a transitional stage, even though his role will not change.
 With Liverpool, “we’re sort of in a transitional stage,” he remarked.
Naturally, it’s wonderful to think that the manager still sees me as a member of Liverpool 2.0, the new team. In the initial weeks of preparation, we spoke a lot. That exuded assurance. Without a doubt, thanks to that captaincy.
