While Virgil van Dijk is still “one of the best,” Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt thinks Brighton’s Evan Ferguson should be on his old team’s radar.
Ferguson, 18, has joined Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls team, following in the footsteps of numerous other young prospects. The striker has already scored four goals in four games this season, which includes a hat-trick against Newcastle United last weekend. The forward scored six goals in 19 Premier League outings last season.
Beginning with the Europa League group stages later this month, Brighton could be playing in Europe for the first time in the club’s history. To develop their careers, players like Alexis Mac Allister have still sought transfers to top-flight competitors despite this.
Ferguson, who was rejected by Liverpool at the youth level, has been predicted by Kuyt to be one of the next Brighton talents to win a transfer. Kuyt believes Liverpool should be in the running for a player of Ferguson’s caliber.
 Top-six clubs, including Liverpool, will undoubtedly keep an eye on Ferguson, but he’ll need to stay playing for longer to demonstrate his ability to have a really consistent season. However, based on what I’ve seen thus far, he may very well be on the top sides’ radar.
Van Dijk, the current captain of Kuyt’s native country and a fellow Dutch international who played for Liverpool, was also on the former Reds No. 18.
The center back has drawn criticism for his actions during periods when the entire club was having trouble, especially last season. Despite his injury issues from the 2020–21 season and subsequent red card, Kuyt maintains that the No. 4 is “still one of the best.”
