Salah was courted by Al Ittihad despite Liverpool’s public declaration that he was not for sale, and the Egyptian was reportedly given a wage package that would have made him one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.
The Saudis were expected to make a last offer that might have totaled up to £215 million after Liverpool rejected a deal of up to £150 million, including add-ons, in order to test the Reds’ resolve before the transfer market closed on the evening of September 7.
It looks that no proposal will be submitted before the Saudi deadline expires, despite claims that a Saudi delegation reportedly travelled to England to make a final push on the sale.
Al Ittihad, however, has acknowledged that a transfer cannot take place this summer.
Even if Liverpool’s up to this point unyielding stance were to suddenly alter, according to The Telegraph, Al Ittihad believes it is now too late to finalize a transaction.
According to the source, the Salah story is finally resolved, at least until January, and Al Ittihad will reevaluate their interest in other windows.
Al Ittihad will instead concentrate their efforts in the closing hours of the window on the signing of a center back, specifically Real Betis’ Luiz Felipe, according to Foot Mercato, which supports rumours that the Jeddah club has withdrawn from a late Salah deal.
