In the same week that our former captain Jordan Henderson severely damaged his relationship with Liverpool supporters, another ex-Red is currently making headlines for less than desirable reasons.

A representative from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) informed Judge Catherine Burton that Barnes owed £238,000.
The former player wasn’t present at the hearing, but it was decided that he would have until November to pay the debt and that he was capable of doing so.
John Barnes’ attorney disclosed that he is currently “on a salary of £200,000” with Liverpool FC, which should undoubtedly contribute to the large amount being demanded.
It’s unclear how the 59-year-old managed to accumulate such a large debt, but it’s easy to predict what many of the rival camp’s supporters will start to say in light of this information.
According to the hearing, the former England international has apparently dealt with HMRC before, although previous debts have been settled.
Let’s hope that this can be resolved promptly and quietly for the benefit of everyone.
