Jurgen Klopp is aware that he should have chased three more acquisitions during the summer transfer window, according to Liverpool veteran John Aldridge. The former striker opined that, in addition to a new center back and full-back, his old team should have hired a second defensive midfielder.
The former Liverpool forward responded to a question regarding the summer’s signings by saying, “Some people think it hasn’t been a wonderful pre-season with some of the signings, but it’s not that awful! My excitement is sparked when I look at the two new midfielders, Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Having said that, as supporters, we are all aware that we could use at least one extra center-half.
Although Klopp was able to improve the midfield, which had been targeted for a rebuild since the previous season, Liverpool’s activity in this transfer window was less active than it was in the previous summer. Aldridge thinks Klopp is aware of the team’s ongoing weaknesses in a number of these areas, though. He admits that Liverpool has few choices in two defensive positions and questions whether Gravenberch is the answer for the defensive midfield position.
The Reds have an abundance of offensive potential, but their defense squad lacks depth, which might be a problem if injuries arise, especially now that the season has already started. In light of all of these considerations, it’s probable that the Liverpool manager may look into the January transfer market in order to strengthen the defense and add a seasoned defensive midfielder to Gravenberch and Endo.
