This summer, Liverpool’s search for new midfielders came to a messy finish.
The Reds struggled to sign a third midfielder to go with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left.
They ultimately completed two last-minute signings to boost their midfield, but one man has explained why he turned down the opportunity to join Liverpool.
Jesper Lindstrom, a Danish midfielder who grew up supporting the Anfield giants, was passed over by Liverpool in the transfer market.
With several teams interested in his services, Lindstrom left Eintracht Frankfurt and joined Serie A winners Napoli for £30 million.
One of them was Liverpool, although Lindstrom has stated the following as to why he decided against moving to Anfield:
Would it have been a wise move? It was Liverpool, and I support Liverpool, so it would have been an absolutely fascinating experience. He spoke with Danish publication Tipsbladet.
“If I don’t play, then I might as well watch them play there on TV while I’m at another club,” he said. I have to play football because of my age.
“For this reason, I believe Napoli are a welcome change. One of the top clubs in the world, and they assured me that I would have plenty of playing opportunities.
