The Reds were interested in signing Felix from Atletico Madrid before he switched to Barcelona on the final day of the transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo. In a swap agreement, Jurgen Klopp’s team was ready to send Nunez in the other direction.
Felix, 23, however, refused the transfer because he wanted to join Barcelona, the team of his dreams. The Portuguese international was eventually signed by the Catalan giants on a season-long loan.Given that the 24-year-old Uruguayan striker only joined Liverpool last summer, Liverpool’s interest in and willingness to deal with Nunez is intriguing. He came from Benfica and cost the Reds a club-record £85 million. With two goals and one assist in four league games, he has had a fantastic second season.Nunez needed some time to get used to Merseyside, but he put on some strong displays last year. In 42 appearances across tournaments, he scored 15 goals and provided four assists.
This was in sharp contrast to the miserable ordeal Felix went through after being expelled from the Wanda Metropolitano. He was given a loan at Chelsea in January but struggled to make an impression, scoring just four goals in 20 games across all competitions.Felix allegedly turned down offers from Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Saudi Pro League teams while he awaited Barcelona. While playing for Benfica, he was once hailed as one of the most promising prospects in European football.
