New Napoli acquisition Jesper Lindstrom gave an explanation of his decision to reject Liverpool in favor of the Italian powerhouses.
The international from Denmark moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to the defending Serie A champions last week. He has a five-year deal with the Naples business.
In the summer of 2021, Lindstrom moved from Brondby IF, the reigning Danish champions, to Eintracht. The 23-year-old played 39 competitive games for Frankfurt in his rookie season, contributing to nine goals and five goals himself.
The midfielder was the focus of ongoing rumors about his future and scored seven goals in 27 games last season. Lindstrom had the possibility to move to Liverpool and fulfill a lifelong dream, in addition to the offer from Napoli, but he looked beyond his heart to what’s best for his career.
Speaking of Football Italia, he said: “It was Liverpool and I’m a Liverpool fan so it would have been an incredibly fascinating experience, but would it have been a wise move?”
“When I’m not playing, I might as well sit in front of the TV and watch them play while I’m at another club. I’m at an age where I have to play football.”
“So I think Napoli is a good change. It’s one of the best clubs in the world and they said I would have a lot of opportunities to play.”
Commenting on his move to Napoli, the Danish international said: “It’s not possible to walk around the streets of the city and that’s why many players live on the outskirts.” “You can’t go for a walk; you have to cover up or they’ll attack you for selfies.
“I knew it would be like this because there is only one club in Naples. Everyone here grew up supporting Napoli, and it’s all extreme. I can’t just go and have a coffee. It’s different, but it’s a good experience.”
