Liverpool are planning to sign Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade in January, while Jurgen Klopp continues to freshen up his midfield, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds lost five veteran midfielders last summer, including former captain Jordan Henderson and Brazilian Fabinho, who joined from Saudi Arabia early last month. Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all resigned as free agents after their contracts expired.
Klopp signed four midfielders during the summer transfer window after adding Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
The Merseysiders missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who joined Chelsea despite Liverpool signing deals with Brighton and Southampton respectively.
It forced Liverpool to look elsewhere and Andre was on the club’s radar. The Brazilian midfielder has been heavily linked with the move to Anfield. The Premier League club has rejected a £26m offer from Fluminense, who were reluctant to sell him this summer.
The Brazilian club has insisted that Andre not be sacked mid-season, as the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A spans a calendar year.
Despite Liverpool’s failure to finalize the deal this summer, the Reds remain interested in André.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the imminent departure of Thiago Alcantara at the end of the season could see Klopp move to the South American as a possible replacement. Alcantara has only a one-year contract and at present he will leave next summer for free. That’s why Liverpool are already planning to sign a new midfielder to strengthen their squad.
A January transfer for the Brazilian international looks more likely and the Reds could make a new offer when the window opens again. Regarded as one of Brazil’s best midfielders, Andre helped Fluminense reach the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores.
