Mo Salah won’t play in Egypt’s upcoming match amid rumors of a MASSIVE money transfer to Saudi Arabia.
Last week, Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League made a bid for the Liverpool star that would have made him the most expensive player in Premier League history at £150 million. The Reds, however, rejected the verbal offer right away and persisted in their position that the 31-year-old was not for sale.
But the club is well aware that the story is far from done. Saudi clubs are permitted to make deals up until September 7, despite the English summer transfer market closing at 11 p.m. last Friday, a practice that has been publicly criticized by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
On Sunday afternoon, Salah started for Liverpool against Aston Villa, although his team is preparing for a better offer. Al-Ittihad is reportedly willing to spend up to £200 million to sign a player they consider to be a marquee star.
After the match against Villa, the forward was expected to report for international service because Egypt had an AFCON qualification against Ethiopia and a friendly against Tunisia. But in order to give him more time to think about his options, “the Pharaohs” will now permit him to stay in the UK a little longer and skip the match against Ethiopia.
According to a statement from the Egyptian FA, “the coach decided not to depend on Salah in the Ethiopia game, especially as the team has already ensured qualification for the African Cup of Nations finals.” The Tunisia game will be played as usual by Salah.
